JNS.org – Two North Korean shipments to Syria’s chemical weapons program have been intercepted in the past six months, according to a confidential report from the United Nations.

“The panel is investigating reported prohibited chemical, ballistic missile and conventional arms cooperation between Syria and the DPRK (North Korea),” a panel of independent UN experts wrote in the report, according to Reuters.

“Two member states interdicted shipments destined for Syria. Another member state informed the panel that it had reasons to believe that the goods were part of a KOMID (Korean Minig Development Trading Corporation) contract with Syria,” the report stated.

KOMID was blacklisted by the UN Security Council in 2009 for its role in exporting ballistic missile and conventional weapons technology.

While Syria agreed to destroy its chemical weapons in 2013 in a deal with the US and Russia, experts suspect that Syria has secretly maintained chemical weapons or developed new ones.
