JNS.org – According to a poll conducted by Tel Aviv University and the Israel Democracy Institute, 63 percent of Israelis believe the impending move of the United States embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem will benefit Israel.
The Peace Index survey’s findings indicated even higher support, of 68 percent, among Jewish Israelis. On May 14th, the secular calendar anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel, the US will hold a ceremony officially dedicating its current consulate in Jerusalem as the official US Embassy in Israel. The existing site will be expanded in the coming years and then replaced with a brand new facility.
The poll also indicated that 83 percent of Israeli Jews strongly support the IDF’s recent efforts over the past five weeks to secure the Israel-Gaza border, including the use of live fire to combat Hamas-led riots, damage to security equipment and attempted infiltrations into neighboring Israeli towns.
