Many Israelis have been put on edge this week by current events — including the threat of an Iranian strike in the north and US President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the July 2015 nuclear deal with the Tehran regime.

On Tuesday, local authorities in the northern Golan Heights were ordered to ready bomb shelters and a limited number of IDF reservists were mobilized.

Residents of central Israel were not indifferent to the tense atmosphere. Dana, from Holon, told the Hebrew news site Walla she hoped her upcoming wedding would not be affected.

“We won’t let any Iranian missile disrupt our plans,” she said.

In the Whatsapp group of the Gozlan family from Netanya, a picture related to Trump’s announcement was shared, and someone wrote, “Concerns are rising and the news is not reassuring. Prepare the bomb shelter. Close the iron-bar window for extra safety. Things are a bit scary, so we’re ready for any situation.”

In an apartment building in the greater Tel Aviv area, a sign was posted, saying, “Dear residents, the bomb shelter must be cleared immediately. Please take your items from there without delay.”

Municipality officials from both Petah Tikva and Ramat Gan said they had received several dozen calls about a potential security escalation. However, the officials said, things were “business as usual,” and there was no reason for residents to be alarmed.
