Danish imam Mundhir Abdallah recently defended himself against hate speech charges pending against him by calling for jihad against Israel.
Abdallah, imam of the Al-Faruq Mosque in Copenhagen, has been indicted as a result of a sermon he delivered on March 31, 2017. According to a Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) translation, he said, “[Soon there will be] a Caliphate, which will instate the shari’a of Allah and revive the Sunna of His Prophet, which will wage Jihad for the sake of Allah, which will unite the Islamic nation after it disintegrated, and which will liberate the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the filth of the Zionists, so that the words of the Prophet Muhammad will be fulfilled.”
He then quoted a notorious hadith that states, “Judgement Day will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them. The Jews will hide behind the rocks and the trees, but the rocks and the trees will say: ‘Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.’”
A new Caliphate ruled by Sharia, he stated, “will liberate Jerusalem, and will uproot the Jewish entity, that colonialist and Crusader base.”
In a July 27 sermon following his indictment, Abdallah said, “I don’t find it peculiar in the least that those [Danish authorities] are placing me on trial for insisting upon the truth.”
He attacked the “criminal West” for supposed hypocrisy, since it indicted him on racism charges while “racism is deeply rooted in its own civilization.”
He then claimed his previous sermon was not about the Jew, but rather an Arab summit convened in Jordan that called for Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
“In that sinful summit, the [Arab] rulers of treachery and depravity called for the Palestinian issue to be resolved through negotiations,” he said. “What negotiations? Negotiations that would have given the Jews — in keeping with the ‘Deal of the Century,’ which was brought about by that foolish, hateful, Crusader pig Trump, in order to break the will of the Muslims, to strengthen the Jewish entity, and to give the Palestinians 10% of historical Palestine.”
Rejecting the idea of peace, Abdallah called for a holy war against Israel, saying, “Palestine is not up for partitioning or bargaining. The only solution for Palestine is Jihad. There is no other solution. My sermon was not about a sect or a people called ‘the Jews.’ The sermon was about an occupied land called Palestine, and about people who occupied that land, with the help and sponsorship of the West.”
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, he said, “will be resolved only through Jihad.”
Rather than himself, he added, “the first to be placed on trial should be the people who planted the Jews in our lands.”
He then reiterated his desire for a Sharia-ruled Islamic Caliphate that would annihilate Israel.
“I made it clear that the solution to our problems as Muslims, and the problem of Palestine, is the establishment of the Islamic State, the Caliphate,” he said. “The Caliphate will fight our enemy and will liberate Palestine, Allah willing, and will eliminate that colonialist state of Israel.”
“That means war,” he emphasized. “War in the occupied Palestine — in Jaffa, in Haifa, and in Akko, as well as in the West Bank. The war is not in Denmark and is not elsewhere, but in Palestine, to liberate it from the occupation.”
