JNS.org – Jews in Dallas, Texas, have condemned Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price for sending out a “highly inappropriate and offensive” political flyer comparing US President Donald Trump to genocidal Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, the Dallas Morning News reported.
In the ad, Price urges his constituents to vote Democrat in the upcoming midterm elections and lists points showing “similarities” between Trump and Hitler, including that they both “used racism to rise to power,” “proposed mass deportations” and “promised to make Germany/America great again.”
The Southern Methodist University Human Rights Program joined the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas and its Jewish Community Relations Council, the local branch of the Anti-Defamation League, the American Jewish Committee and the Dallas Holocaust Museum in issuing a statement condemning the ad on Friday.
“This reference diminishes the inexpressible horror perpetrated and orchestrated by Adolf Hitler with the systematic murder of 6 million Jews and millions of other victims. To use his name and portrayal as a comparison in a political advertisement demeans the memory and humanity of those who perished and cheapens our political process,” the statement said.
Despite the uproar, Price, who has served in his position for the past 33 years and is not up for re-election until 2020, said he stands by his ad.
