Father of Israeli Student Murdered in Australia: I Wanted to Be With Her More Time, but Someone Decided I Could Not

The father of the 21-year-old Israeli woman who was murdered in Australia earlier this week arrived in Melbourne on Friday to identify her body and visit the site where she was killed.
“I am sad because this is the last place my daughter was in,” Saeed Maasarwe — the father of the late Aiia Maasarwe — told reporters. “I had many dreams to be with her, but I cannot now. I want to be with her more time, but someone decided I cannot be.”
A 20-year-old man has been arrested as a suspect in the killing of Maasarwe, who was taking part in a six-month study abroad program at La Trobe University in Melbourne at the time of her death.
Maasarwe grew up in Baqa al-Gharbiyye, in northern Israel, before moving to China, where she enrolled at Shanghai University.
