JNS.org – Antisemitic and other racist graffiti was discovered in two schools in Brandon, Canada on Saturday.
The graffiti was apparently spray-painted on Vincent Massey High School and Linden Lanes School during the early hours of the morning.
Brandon Police staff sergeant Guy Roberts described the vandalism consisting of “antisemitic comments and logos” in addition to “racial slurs including the N-word,” reported the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
“It’s shocking, and it’s disgusting, and it’s something that has no place in today’s society,” he told CBC. “But unfortunately there’s people that will feel that they need to spread hate in this fashion.”
Roberts added that the schools attempted to remove the graffiti on Saturday.
Overall, 2,041 antisemitic incidents in Canada were reported in 2018—a 16.5 percent increase from the previous year, according to B’nai Brith Canada.
“While vandalism and violence continued to target members of Canada’s Jewish community, harassment was the most dominant form of antisemitic expression in 2018, with a 28.4 percent increase compared with 2017, representing a 61.5 percent increase since 2015,” said the organization.
Incidents of vandalism decreased from 327 to 221, as violent antisemitic attacks also dropped, from 16 in 2017 to 11 in 2018.
