Rare Beauty, the cosmetics company founded and chaired by singer and actress Selena Gomez, on Tuesday chided Israel’s ongoing military campaign against Hamas in the Gaza Strip without mentioning the Palestinian terror group, decrying the situation as a “humanitarian crisis.”
The company addressed the Israel-Hamas war in a new statement on social media. It posted on its Instagram account a photo of a maroon square with the words “Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza” superimposed in the middle of the image. In the photo’s caption, Rare Beauty made clear its opposition to Israel’s military operations against Hamas, which controls Gaza.
“Thousands of innocent Palestinian civilians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes & millions of civilians have been displaced & left without access to food, water, medicine, or basic necessities for survival. A large number of these victims are children. Palestinian civilians must be protected, period,” the post read.
The company added that it remains “heartbroken by the horrible terror attack against innocent civilians in Israel on October 7th, many of them also children. There is no situation where attacks on civilians are acceptable. We strongly denounce any & all forms of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.”
Beyond not mentioning Hamas by name, Rare Beauty also did not mention the 240 people who Hamas terrorists kidnapped from Israel as hostages or the 1,400 others who were murdered by the terrorists on Oct. 7. The vast majority of the victims and hostages were civilians.
Rare Beauty urged the public to support organizations that are providing humanitarian aid during the war and said it is donating to the International Red Cross, Israel’s Magen David Adom and the Palestine Red Crescent Society. “We will also be donating to UNICEF to help get urgent medical relief & resources to the children of Gaza,” it added.
Gomez shared her own thoughts on the war last week on social media, but was criticized by some for her “neutral” remarks and for not using her platform to clearly condemn the Hamas terrorist organization by name. The Only Murders in the Building star instead said “any act of hate towards one group is horrific,” and that her “heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence, and terror that’s going on in the world.”
