Lior Raz, the co-creator and star of the hit Israeli television series Fauda, auctioned off supporting roles in the Hebrew-language show at a fundraising event on Wednesday night in New York City benefitting victims of the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel, the Israeli publication Mako reported.
Three donors bought the offer for a combined total of $900,000 and will have roles in Fauda‘s fifth season, which was announced in September. The highest bid was from a philanthropist who paid $400,000 for the position of a superintendent in the show, according to Mako. Raz later said in a video posted on Instagram that the characters played by the three donors will be killed off the show by his character, Doron.
A series of Israeli celebrities attended the event and helped get donors to raise approximately $10 million for those affected by the Hamas atrocities that unfolded in southern Israel in early October. Those in attendance included singer Omer Adam, mentalist Lior Suchard, actors Haim Etgar and Yadin Gelman, actress Rotem Sela and Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan. New York City Mayor Eric Adams also attended the event. Adam and Suchard performed on stage and speeches were given by individuals whose family members were killed by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7.
Fauda (Arabic for “chaos”) is about an elite, Israeli combat unit that goes undercover to hunt down terrorists. In season four, which premiered on Netflix in January, Doron, who was forced out of the unit, return from retirement to hunt for a Palestinian terrorist he thought he killed. He and his team travel around Lebanon, the Israeli city of Ramla, Brussels, and the Palestinian city of Jenin in the West Bank. The show is Israel’s longest-running action series.
