Disney released on Friday the first teaser trailer for its live-action remake of the 1937 animated classic “Snow White,” starring Rachel Zegler as the title character and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.
Zegler and Gadot introduced the clip to the thousands who gathered at the Honda Center for D23, Disney’s fan convention, in Anaheim, California. The trailer opens with Zegler dancing and singing “Whistle While You Work” with the seven dwarfs. It also includes scenes of Gadot putting on the crown, talking into her magic mirror, and transforming into an old woman who seeks to poison Snow White.
Talking on stage about playing the Evil Queen, Disney’s first ever villain, the Israeli actress told the audience: “It was a lot of fun to get to do something that is completely different than anything I’ve ever done before. She’s delicious, she’s evil, she’s magical.”
Zegler expressed gratitude for the opportunity to take on this role.
“It’s been the honor of a lifetime,” Zegler said about playing the iconic Disney princess. “I think any young person, any little girl, if you get to put on a Disney princess dress and be her for a day let alone six months of shooting in London on these incredible sets … it’s just been the most amazing experience and I can’t wait to share it with you all.”
The movie musical, which is based on a Brothers Grimm tale, is about a princess who is rescued by seven dwarf miners after fleeing into the forest to escape her wicked and jealous stepmother, the Evil Queen. When her magic mirror declares that Show White is the fairest one of all, the Evil Queen becomes widely jealous of Snow White, the only one whose beauty surpasses her own. The Evil Queen then disguises herself as an old woman and tries to tempt Snow White into eating a poisoned apple, in a final attempt to stop her only rival. Tony-winning actor Andrew Burnap plays the male lead in the film.
The live-action remake of “Snow White” is directed by Marc Webb (“The Amazing Spider-Man” and “500 Days of Summer”) with a screenplay by Greta Gerwig (“Barbie”) and Erin Cressida Wilson. Marc Platt is producing, and original songs for the film were written by Oscar winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (“The Greatest Showman” and “La La Land”).
The live-action remake of “Snow White” hits theaters on March 21, 2025.
