A UK politician at the center of a controversy involving anti-Semitic conspiracy theories has been suspended by her political party.
Anna-Marie Crampton was due to stand for election in Crowborough, Sussex in next Thursday’s county council elections, but after it surfaced that she has in the past posted several highly offensive statements to her social media accounts and a separate conspiracy theory website, her party decided to take action.
One article, posted to the website “Secrets of The Fed” included the statement: “Holocaust means a sacrifice by fire. Only the Zionists could sacrifice their own in the gas chambers.
“The Second World Wide War was engineered by the Zionist Jews and financed by the banksters to make the general public all over the world feel so guilty and outraged by the Holocaust that a treaty would be signed to create the State of Israel as we know it today.”
Crampton, however, has denied being the author of the remarks.
On her Twitter account earlier – which has since been closed – Ms Crampton refuted the comments.
She said: “I’m not anti-Semitic. I never said I do not believe in the Holocaust.
“I’ve clearly been trolled.”
She added: “Further, my great-grandmother was Jewish on my mother’s side.”
UKIP leader Nigel Farage was having none of her excuses, saying: “I’ve learnt about this, I’ve looked at it, and from this moment she does not have the endorsement of our party.”
Ms Crampton’s name will still appear on the ballot paper at next week’s election even though she has been suspended pending an investigation.
