Officials at Israel’s Neve Tirtza womens prison on Sunday sent a Palestinian inmate to solitary confinement after prison guards claimed she praised Islamic State terrorists, according to Israel’s Channel 2 News.

“May ISIS come and take the whole of the State of Israel,” was the phrase the inmate used, that landed her in isolation, according to an individual involved in the case. She, however, also denied being a terrorist.

On Saturday, Yom Kippur, during a routine conversation, the prisoner said “I am ISIS, I am ISIS,” and made stabbing motions, the source said.

“I was joking, in a moment of kidding around and without any intention to commit the offense or commit a security offense,” the prisoner told her friends after the event. “I have no connection or interest in anything to do with terrorism.”

However, IPS officials didn’t get the joke, and the prisoner was sent to isolation, and is awaiting a brief trial. At first, another prisoner occupying the same cell didn’t know why the woman was moved, but after the incident became known, it became the talk of the day in the cellblock.

The Israel Prison Service (IPS) opened disciplinary proceedings against the 29-year-old Palestinian prisoner, who is in her eighth year of a sentence for her involvement in the murder of her husband, in a “family honor” killing.

Moses Shochtman, who represents the inmate, is furious at the conduct of the IPS.

“This is unnecessary hysteria. It is unthinkable that what she expressed in jest and without any real intention, became a baseless indictment of support or sympathy for extremist terrorist organizations,” Shoctman said in her defense.

“This is a positive and behaved prisoner, according to all the sociologist reports, even though she’s a Palestinian in an Israeli prison,” he said. “She fits in and has internalized the rules of prison life, and has no connection or background to terrorism. An injustice has been done to her, and I look forward to the Prison Service using discretion and refraining from disciplinary proceedings or taking any other measures against her.”

The Prison Service confirmed the details of the incident and said that she “was moved to prison segregation pending a disciplinary hearing of the case, and disciplinary proceedings will be conducted against her.”
