A delegation of Israeli officials traveled to the US this week and met with members of US President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team, the Hebrew news outlets nrg and Makor Rishon reported on Friday.
According to the report, the purpose of the meeting was to start the process of sharing views and setting expectations for the years ahead. The Americans, the report said, were particularly interested in hearing the Israeli government’s positions on a number of key diplomatic and security issues.
The visiting Israeli delegation was led by acting National Security Adviser Jacob Nagel and joined by Israeli Ambassador to the US Ron Dermer.
For Israel, the report noted, the top priority is dealing with the danger posed by Iran.
Last Sunday, as reported by The Algemeiner, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated his criticism of the nuclear agreement reached last year between Iran and six world powers, telling the Saban Forum, “I look forward to speaking to [Trump] about what to do about this bad deal.”
In a pre-election interview with The Algemeiner last month, senior Trump adviser David Friedman said a Trump administration would “reengage with the world powers in a way that seeks to reintroduce leverage on Iran.”
In mid-November, Netanyahu told the Jewish Federations of North America’s General Assembly that Israel would work with the Trump administration to advance the “twin interests of peace and security.”
