The Jewish state has “unequivocal” evidence that the outgoing Obama administration was behind the anti-settlement resolution approved by the UN Security Council last month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday.
“There is no question whatsoever about that,” he told a group of visiting American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) officials in Jerusalem.
Furthermore, Netanyahu rejected the claim that the resolution broke no new ground, saying that it in fact represented a “major break” with past US policy.
“We are concerned there may be a repetition of this [at the UN before President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated next week]… We’re doing our best [and] we hope that you’ll do your best to exert the influence that it doesn’t happen, because it pushes peace further away because it’s unfair.”
In a video published three days ago, ex-Israeli Foreign Minister Director General Dore Gold cautioned that the international diplomatic conference set to be held in Paris this coming Sunday and attended by US Secretary of State John Kerry could lead to further anti-Israel action at the UN Security Council next week.
