JNS.org – The Islamic State claimed responsibility on Wednesday for coordinated attacks on the Iranian Parliament and the mausoleum of the first supreme leader of the country.
At least 12 people were killed and 35 other wounded in the Sunni terror group’s attacks on the Shiite nation.
Four individuals were taken hostage during the assault on the Iranian parliament.
Two suicide bombers carried out attacks at late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s shrine, according to the Islamic State-affiliated Amaq news agency.
The Interior Ministry convened an emergency security meeting in response to the attacks, the Iranian state-run IRNA news agency reported. The deputy interior minister, Mohammad Hossein Zolfaghari, said male attackers disguised themselves in women’s clothing.
According to Iran’s Intelligence Ministry, a third attack was foiled.
