The tide has turned in the fight against the Tehran regime, Israel’s US envoy declared on Wednesday.
In remarks at a Rosh Hashanah reception he hosted at his home in the suburbs of Washington, DC, Ambassador Ron Dermer said the Trump administration’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal earlier this year “dramatically improved Israel’s security and may change the trajectory of the entire Middle East.”
Thanks to the US pullout from the deal and the reimposition of American sanctions on the mullahs, “an Iranian regime that vows and works to annihilate Israel is getting weaker, fueling Iran’s war machine is getting harder, and the risks of war are getting smaller,” Dermer noted.
The ambassador also thanked US President Donald Trump for his “bold and historic decision to recognize Jerusalem as our capital and move the US embassy there.”
Furthermore, Dermer expressed hope that changing regional dynamics in the Middle East could bolster the chances for peace in the future.
Many Arab states, the close confidant of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pointed out, were “no longer reflexively dancing to the Palestinians’ tune.”
Dermer said he was confident that “when the time is right, the Trump administration will try to use the new realities taking shape in our region to help us forge a new path to peace and reconciliation.”
The ambassador capped off his speech with a call for Jewish unity.
“We should always remember that despite our differences, we are still one people,” he said. “In contentious times, that it is particularly easy to forget. But it is precisely in those times, when it is particularly important to remember.”
