Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited on Monday the site in the West Bank where two Israelis — one soldier and one civilian — were murdered the previous day in a Palestinian terrorist attack.
The perpetrator of the combined stabbing and shooting incident near the entrance to Ariel — 20-year-old Omar Abu Laila, from the nearby village of Az-Zawiya — remained on the run on Monday, with large numbers of Israeli forces seeking to track him down.
“I send condolences to the families of IDF Sgt. Gal Keidan and Rabbi Achiad Ettinger, who succumbed to his wounds this morning, a father of 12,” Netanyahu said, after receiving a briefing from GOC Central Command Maj. Gen. Nadav Padan. “I have heard that they were splendid people. Our hearts are with them; the heart of the entire people is with the families.”
“We know the identity of the assailant; the IDF, ISA and the security services are in close pursuit,” the prime minister — who was accompanied by Ariel Mayor Eliyahu Shaviro – noted. “We know where he lives and have located his family. This morning I gave the orders to start the demolition of his home and the preparations have begun.”
“These terrorists will not uproot us from here; the complete opposite will happen,” he added, before citing a biblical verse. “Our response is simple — ‘The more they afflict them, the more they multiplied and spread.’”
“We know that we are in a constant struggle…but in the end we will defeat the murderers,” Netanyahu vowed. “We will apprehend them. The arms of the security services reach all of these murderers.”
