Ahead of elections on January 22nd, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu provided rare access into his personal life to Israel Channel 2’s Jacob Eilon.
During an interview, Netanyahu spoke intimately of his childhood and provided a tour of the house where he grew up. “I had a very happy childhood,” he recalled. He spoke of the close bond between he and his two brothers and how his one brother, Yonatan, use to beat up on him up so as to toughen him up.
During a particularly moving moment Netanyahu allowed the cameras to film the army girdle Yonatan was wearing when he was killed during Operation Entebbe in 1976.
The raid, which followed the hijacking of a plane by the PLO, took place during the dead of the night in Entebbe, Uganda, where the plane had landed. Of the 100 commandos sent to free the hostages, only Yonatan was killed.
