38. James Madison University

Harrisonburg, Virginia

James Madison University is home to some 1,200 Jewish undergraduates, about six percent of the greater student body. The Virginia school hosts a Hillel that is entirely student-run, which organizes events ranging from Bagel Brunches, talks by Holocaust survivors, and the occasional Shabbat dinner. The on-campus Chabad offers weekly Shabbat services and meals, and runs social events like “Chillin 'n Grillin” and “Midnight Breakfast.” Happily, JMU sees little to no antisemitic and anti-Israel activity.
