Syracuse, New York

Jewish students make up some 16 percent of Syracuse University’s undergraduate population. From its courses on Hebrew and Yiddish literature, to its seminars on Jewish mysticism, the school has many of the academic resources a student interested in Jewish heritage could ask for. However, while it does lack an SJP chapter and is not known as a hotbed of anti-Zionist activity, recent incidents have raised concern among some members of the Jewish community. In March, a Syracuse student said an adviser in her residence hall posted a picture of a pro-Palestinian demonstrator holding a defaced Israeli flag, while in April an event with an Israeli diplomat was disrupted by a group of anti-Zionist students led by professional activists.
