Over 40 percent of Tulane University’s undergraduate student body is Jewish, the largest percentage of a school without Jewish roots. This New Orleans-based university sees very little antisemitism, and features an active pro-Israel student group and regular Shabbat dinners. Chabad hosts 100 students for meals every Shabbat, and an enormous annual 'Shabbat 1000,' publicized as the biggest shabbat meal in New Orleans. Students can also eat at Rimon, a dining hall which serves gourmet, kosher cuisine with Israeli and Korean-inspired fare, and also offers grab-and-go options. In August, the planned US-Israel Energy Research Innovation Center that will be headquartered at Tulane — an initiative designed to promote academic collaboration between US and Israeli universities on energy technologies — was boosted with a $100,000 gift from community members.
