Jewish Population on Campus
The University of Pennsylvania's Hillel claims to reach some 90 percent of the school’s approximately 1,700 Jewish undergraduates, whether through its dedicated soup kitchen or the J*Stage Theatre Company. Over 40 Hillel student communities and programs are housed in the state of the art Steinhart Hall, which includes a kosher dining hall and Beit Midrash. Chabad also offers Shabbat meals and an array educational programs, including the Sinai Scholars’ Society and a Jewish Heritage Internship. Despite this positive environment, Jewish students may still face some challenges at U Penn. The school's SJP held its second “Israeli Apartheid Week” in April 2017, shortly after screening a movie supportive of the BDS campaign. That same month, Nazi recruitment flyers were found on campus, drawing condemnation from the administration. (Photo credit: Wikipedia.)
