Last week, Bishop Eddy Long stirred up quite a bit of controversy after he was wrapped in Torah scroll but a Messianic preacher – Rabbi Ralph Messer, who then anointed Long as a “king”.
The Anti-Defamation League released a statement condemning the act and on Saturday, Long quickly apologized for any harm he had done.
“While I believe that Rabbi Ralph Messer has good intentions during his message at New Birth, I understand that the ceremony he performed on Sunday, January 29th, caused harm to the Jewish community, for which I am deeply sorry,” Long wrote.
Messianics believe that Jesus is the Messiah, which does not conform to any branches of Judaism. Long also said he had no intent to offend “in any manner” the Jewish community “or any group”.
The ADL responded on Sunday, calling the apology “heartfelt, sincere, and humble.”
A video of the ceremony that sparked the apology is below.
