A senior Israeli defense official who played a central role in negotiations to release abducted Israeli Air Force navigator Ron Arad, has joined a growing number of critics to the Shalit prisoner swap.
“When I look to the future, [this deal will] bring about major problems, I think the deal should have been rejected even if his fate would be similar to that of Ron Arad,” he said.
Ron Arad was captured on October 16, 1986 in a failed mission to attack PLO targets over Lebanon. “The reality is that this will lead to more kidnappings and more extortion” he concluded.
