Western Wall Guard Fires 10 Shots at Israeli, Killing Him Instantly
by Zach Pontz
An Israeli security guard unloaded 10 shots on a Jewish man at the entrance to the Western Wall on Friday, killing him on the spot, Israeli media reported.
The guard opened fire after the man, 46, in an adjacent restroom, was heard shouting “Allahu Akbar,” Arabic for “God is greatest,” police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said, according to Reuters.
Police say the the guard saw the victim reach for his pocket while shouting the Arabic phrase.
Medical crews that arrived on the scene attempted to resuscitate the man, but he died at the scene.
One witness told the Times of Israel he was shocked by the incident.
“I don’t understand why he was shot. Everybody knows him and his behavior. He often acted in a nervous manner. What has happened here is not normal,” David Dahan told the website.
The victim was “sitting down this morning, reading the newspaper as usual,” Dahan added, “he began screaming and after that he approached the bathroom. After a short time, I heard at least seven or 10 gunshots.”
