The issue of Israeli daily Ma'ariv reporting on a new poll on Israel-PA talks.

Israel’s third largest newspaper took to mocking U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s efforts to push a framework peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, featuring a front page caricature of the leader sleepwalking off a cliff while chasing an elusive dove.

The image, which was published in Friday’s edition of Ma’ariv, which holds some 11.9% of market share in Israel, was placed alongside the paper’s coverage of a recent poll which showed 80% of the Israeli public doubting that the current negotiations will lead to peace.

The poll also showed that 73% of respondents are not willing to have the IDF retreat from the Jordan Valley as part of any peace agreement.

Along with other Israeli newspapers, Ma’ariv has experienced financial troubles in recent years. The publication was bought by publisher Shlomo Ben-Zvi in 2013 and has been partially amalgamated with another title of his, Makor Rishon. Ma’ariv’s editor-in-chief is Nir Hefetz.
