Tens of thousands of missiles located across the Middle East are ready to strike Israel at a moment’s notice, a senior Iranian commander threatened on Friday according to the country’s semi-official news agency Tasnim.
“Today, the grounds for the annihilation and collapse of the Zionist regime (of Israel) are provided more than ever,” threatened Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami during weekly Friday prayers in Tehran.
The IRGC commander warned that should the “Zionists” not learn from their past mistakes, “Today, more than 100,000 missiles are ready to fly from Lebanon,” adding that in addition there are “tens of thousands of destructive long-range missiles” in the region ready to wipe Israel off the map.
“If the Zionists make a wrong move, all the occupied territories will come under attack from dedicated fighters, and God willing, the territories will be liberated,” he said.
Salami’s comments came amidst massive rallies held in Iran marking international Al-Quds Day. Thousands of Iranians filled the streets throughout the country, carrying placards and chanting slogans against Israel and the US — including “Death to America” and “Death to Israel” — and burning American and Israeli flags.
Speaking to reporters at a Tehran rally, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif accused Israel of crimes against the Palestinian people, adding that Israel and “Takfiri [blasphemous] groups” pose a common global threat, Tasnim reported.
“The Zionist regime and Takfiri groups are, in fact, a single danger, both of which are guided by same powers in the world and the region,” he said. “The Takfiri currents and their supporters have forgotten the reality of Israel’s enmity against the Islamic world, and have targeted Muslims, instead of the regime.”
Al-Quds Day is an annual event established by the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979 to express solidarity with the Palestinian people and call for Israel’s destruction. In Iran, the day is observed on the last Friday of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. Around the world, Al-Quds Day rallies are planned throughout the weekend.
As reported by The Algemeiner, the pro-Israel community in Britain is planning a counter-demonstration against a Sunday Al-Quds Day rally in London. The rally — organized by the Islamic Human Rights Commission — has regularly featured the flying of the Hezbollah, Hamas and ISIS flags.
