JNS.org – Ahead of former Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters’s performances in Washington, DC this weekend, the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of Greater Washington has launched a social media video campaign explaining the rocker’s role as a prominent activist in the anti-Israel BDS movement.

The JCRC said the video aims to educate Washington-area residents on “the ways Waters uses music to divide people, rather than bring them together,” and details the musician’s history of “antagonizing other musicians who chose to perform in Israel” as well as his controversial comparisons of Israel to Nazi Germany.

In April, Waters and South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu spearheaded a BDS petition against the British rock band Radiohead’s July concert in Tel Aviv.

Waters is performing at Washington’s Verizon Center from Aug. 4-5.

Anyone who grew up in South Africa and then moved to Israel will see there is no apartheid in Israel. There are Arabs in Israeli hospitals as doctors, nurses and patients. There are Arabs in Israeli courts as judges, including the Supreme Court, as barristers and solicitors. There are Arabs in Israeli universities as professors, students and admin. If you mixed in a crowd in Haifa or most other places you could not tell Israeli Arabs from Israeli Jews. Arabs make up about 25% of the Israeli population and have the same legal rights as any other Israeli.
