JNS.org – A rocket fired from the Gaza Strip late Tuesday night landed near the southern Israeli coastal city of Ashkelon, the IDF said.

“A short while ago, a projectile hit an open region in the Ashkelon region. No injuries have been reported,” the IDF said on Twitter.

No Palestinian terror group has claimed responsibility for the rocket, but Israel holds Hamas, which controls Gaza, responsible for any rocket fire.

Despite the tensions over Jerusalem’s Temple Mount this summer, there have been only a few instances of rocket fire from Gaza landing in Israel. Last month, a rocket from Gaza landed in an open area in the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council.
