Israel on Wednesday marked the 23rd anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the US homeland, expressing solidarity with its close ally and honoring the victims.
“Today on the 23rd anniversary of September 11, we remember the nearly three thousand Americans murdered by terrorists,” the State of Israel’s official X/Twitter account posted. “We honor the victims, their families, and the first responders who risked and lost their lives saving others. We will never forget them. May the memory of the victims be a blessing.”

On Sept. 11, 2001, al Qaeda terrorists murdered about 3,000 people when they hijacked planes and crashed two into the World Trade Center and another into the Pentagon. A fourth plane, United Flight 93, crashed in Pennsylvania. The terrorist attacks led the US to invade Afghanistan and brought a global spotlight to the threat of Islamist terrorism.
“We remember 9/11 and all of the victims affected by this act of terrorism,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) tweeted from its main account.

The X/Twitter account of Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, also marked the anniversary and characterized the ongoing war against terrorists as one of civilization against barbarism.
“On the anniversary of 9/11, we stand with the American people in our common battle against the forces of terror,” the tweet read. “We remember our slain brothers and sisters and we recommit ourselves to the victory of civilization in our ongoing struggle against barbarism.”

Israel’s top diplomat, Foreign Minister Israel Katz, also marked the 9/11 anniversary and invoked last year’s Hamas-led Oct. 7 massacre on the Jewish state to note that both countries share a core interest in combating terrorism.
“On the 23rd anniversary of 9/11, Israel stands with the US to remember the thousands of innocent victims of that heinous terrorist attack and to reaffirm our shared commitment to fighting terrorism,” Katz posted on social media. “The October 7th massacre in Israel is a painful reminder that terror knows no borders. Together [Israel and the US] we will ensure that such darkness will never prevail.”
