A resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was sentenced on Tuesday to 16 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for making antisemitic and Islamophobic threats over the phone to Jews and Muslims.

Yaniv Gola, 51, used a device to mask his phone number and made hundreds of telephone calls to eight different victims — threatening to injure, rape, and kill them — between Aug. 2, 2022 and Nov. 5, 2023, according to the US Justice Department. He was charged in February of this year and pleaded guilty to eight counts against him. His sentencing was announced this week by US District Court Judge Kai Scott.

In one telephone call, according to prosecutors, Gola said Jews should be shoved in ovens, which is a commonly used reference to the deadly gas chambers at Nazi concentration camps during World War II. He threatened: “You f—king Jew, now I know where you are. I’m going to kill all you Jews. You all should be shoved back into ovens. I’m going down to [victim’s business location] to kill you.”

“You’re Jewish, I’m from Hamas,” he threatened in his most recent call. “You’re animals and pigs … If you don’’ leave that place, we’re going to blow you up.” On another call, Gola told a Muslim victim, “I want to put a bullet in your head … You f—king Muslims.”

“Yaniv Gola made hundreds of these calls and texts, terrorizing his victims with incredibly vile, violent threats,” said US Attorney Jacqueline Romero. “He learned where they lived and worked, deploying those details just to heighten their fear. My office and the FBI will continue to hold accountable anyone making such cruel and criminal threats.”

Gola’s case was investigated by the FBI with assistance from the Philadelphia Police Department as well as other police departments in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

“Let today’s sentence serve as a reminder that the FBI will continue to diligently pursue those who make violent threats against those we are charged to protect,” said Wayne Jacobs, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Philadelphia field office.
