Times of Israel – The World Bank will invest upwards of $6.4 million to “improve and expand coverage of water and sewage services” in Gaza, the organization announced on Tuesday.

The Gazan water supply is “over utilized and badly contaminated,” according to the World Bank, and the project aims to “finance the rehabilitation and expansion of existing water and waste water systems, and enhance the capacity to provide and maintain water and sewage services.”

    A welcome move -about $4 a head won’t do much though…Gaza is a crowded place
    Water lines ,when underground, are not deep lack of equipment has meant the underground portions are in shallow hand dug and filled trenches..same for sewers of many are just open trenches. Hundreds of millions of dollars are needed to improve systems..the area is a breeding ground for disease vectors which recognize no borders..and so Israel too is in danger.
    Heavy traffic such as 60-ton tanks moving over and through shallow sewer and water passageways destroys them.
