Israeli Naval commandos on Wednesday intercepted an Iranian ship in the Red Sea weighed down with missiles that was en route to the Gaza Strip, the IDF said in a statement.

The boat, named KLOSC, was stopped by the elite naval commando unit Shayetet 13 as it was heading to Sudan, 1,500 miles from Israel.

Once on board the KLOSC Israeli soldiers found cement bags, behind which were hidden dozens of M-302 missiles which, the IDF said, were loaded onto the boat in Iran. Had the boat reached the Port of Sudan, its next stop would have been the Gaza Strip.

The M-302 missile is made in Syria and is based on Iranian technology, Israel’s Walla reported. M-302 missiles have a range of up to 200 kilometers and were used during the Second Lebanon War in 2006 to bomb several Israeli cities, including Haifa.

IDF Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Benny Gantz, oversaw the operation and gave the order to Major General Ram Rothberg, head of the Israeli navy, to seize the KLOSC, the IDF said.

According to a senior Israeli military official, the commandos encountered no resistance from the crew of the KLOSC, Walla said.

The IDF said the success of the mission was “due to the combination of in-depth intelligence and enhanced operational capabilities.”

“This shipment, meant to reach the hands of terrorist organizations in Gaza that are waging an ongoing armed conflict against Israel. These terrorist organizations systematically use such weaponry against the Israeli civilian population,” the IDF added.

“Iran was behind the shipment,” said Brigadier General Moti Almoz, spokesman for the Israeli Navy, at a special press conference that was held on Wednesday, Ma’ariv reported.

IDF Spokesman, Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, said, “The IDF will continue to operate against the Iranian attempts to arm regional terrorist organizations, who intend to continuously ignite our borders. We will continue to employ all the necessary means in order to prevent the armament of terrorist organizations and will combat the Iranian smuggling attempts that threaten the security and sovereignty of the State of Israel.”

The Navy is currently in the process of towing the KLOSC to Israel’s southern port in Eilat and it is estimated that the voyage to Israel will take several days, Walla said.

The KLOSC is the fourth ship destined for Gaza to be intercepted by Israeli forces in recent years.

Excellent job in preventing this ship full of potential carnage in reaching the foes of Israel.

  • No doubt there will soon be a UN resolution condemning Israel for interrupting the peaceful shipment of tractor parts to Gaza.

  • very well done YIsraeli navy ! Iran show’s it has no intention to stop attacking YIsrael !

  • Want to know something strange, and “funny”?

There are plenty of ISRAELI ARABS living, conducting busines, marrying and spending their lives as Arabs in the Jewish State, wondering why the hell their compatriots re so angry with the Jews?…since the Jews don’t bother them at all; they have voting rights, are members of the Knesset, some even marry Jews, so…what’s the problem???

    Somebody has it all wrong!!

    • I do agree with this writer to-day Israeli arabs have have integrated well into Israeli society young people in Israeli universities & in all aspects of Israeli society they have their own units in the israeli army please don’t forget the Druse who run the Israeli border police

  • and Obama just sits there, the first Black president of the USA. does nothing, says nothing. probably was asleep with orders “do not disurb” while the world boils over.

Obama, the president of the United states, maker of foreign policy.

Friend of the Jews throughout the world. – yeah, right.

Good work! No telling how many lives will be saved by the efforts of the IDF.

Of course, Iran will raise hell and try to bully Israel.

In the mean time the inept Obama Administration will continue to use their intellect instead of their muscles to continue their stumbling around Middle Eastern affairs. After all, Obama has already proven over and over that his “word” means nothing, so I wonder why they keep on talking. And yet, Obama wants to lecture Netanyahu on Palestinian policy!!!! Get real. The capture of these missles go to show how “peaceful” the intent of the Iranians and Palestinians is.

And Kerry is another intellectual babbling fool.
They still think they can snobbishly use their intellect to bully Iran into submission. Kerry just publicly chastised Putin for marching into the Ukraine for no apparent purpose other than to occupy their land! Seriously? You mean like the US did to Iraq?

The Iranians and the Palestinians are laughing at the Obama Administration and they are too inept to see it.

It’s no wonder American Jews are switching to the Republican Party. Today’s Democratic party is NOT our parents Democratic Party and they do not stand with Israel and the Jewish people—-they just “claim” to and give us more lip service. I don’t buy it any more.

  • What Obama forgets is that muslim;s betray each other after they get what they want, that encludes Obama after he;s out,The patsy isn;t worth anything,He;s a has been.

  • The KLOSC should then be re-outfitted, dismantled for parts or towed out to sea and sunk.

  • Makes me real proud. Good going boys.

  • Israel will be reviled for interfering with essential supplies to Gaza, the fact that there were rockets on board is irrelevant.

    • Mordecai Ben Natan

The whole world will be up in arms against Israel who they claim are pirstes to arrest a ship.
Watxch all the Jew hating Muslims and Christians condemn Israel again.
To them, Israel has no right to act as “pirats”.
this must really upset those haters that the rockets can not be used to murder hundreds of Israeli Jews.
WELL DONE IDF. G-D IS WITH YOU.

I read each comment and concluded with a hearty Amen until this stupid comment. No REAL Born Again Christian is a “Jew hater”. Could the author of this comment really be the “Jew hater” who is trying to stir up trouble for those who really support Israel’s right to exist and defend herself? I also believe that no REAL Born Again Christian would support Obama or any other person who hates Israel. I happen to be in Israel today, visiting with a group of 75 people who paid alot of money just to visit the Holy Land. I wish I could fight for Israel. These are 8.8 million normal people seeking to live a peaceful life in their own homeland. Before Ayatolahs start trying to destroy Israel, or any country for that matter, they should invest that effort in trying to fix the problems in their own homelands, like treating women like human beings. I need not say more. GREAT JOB IDF! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!

  • rachel robinson

obama is easily fooled. Ajmedinegad was a bully, easy to recognize and he used his speeches to declare the intentions of Iran. Rouhani is a different kind of leader. he speaks softly, it the exact opposite of Ahmedinegad so he makes people believe him, but he says in the nicest way what his intentions are and they are not less evil than his predecessor. Obama is a fool, is not sophisticated, or better yet evil, he supports Iran against Israel and that is why he does nothing to stop Iran. that is nothing short of sinister!!

  • And of course the United Nations does nothing

  • Charlotte Greenbarg

I wonder if our government will insist that Israel return the missiles and apologize or face sanctions. It would be right in line with the chaos that’s our foreign policy.

    • Mordecai Ben Natan

Sure. Obama will demand that Israel return the missiles to Iran, and then that Netanyahu must apologize to Iran for “piracy on the high seas”

  • vivienne ziner

Has anyone told Obama what his “friends” are up to?

Or do these kind of details just not count????

  • Bernard Ross

and the ludicrous barry obama asked Israel NOT to assassinate Iranian nuclear scientists.

  • Instead of just destroying the missiles, I think that the next time Hamas decides to inflict its brand of terror, that Israel should send the missiles to their intended destination. To paraphrase an Obama Associate, Why let a good opportunity go to waste!

Either that or send them Return Receipt Requested to the White House.

  • M.A. Kinamohn

Good work, keep up the vigilance.

  • Mr.Obama and Mr.Kerry, how can there be any talk of giving up land for peace when the enemies of Israel continue to perpetuate terror and destruction within The Land of Israel?

  • Alan Kennedy

Take as much footage as possible, put the crew in a locker, light a slow fuse and leave

    • Israelis are peaceful people they wouldn’t harm people aboard the ship but if it were Russians surely they’d just sink the ship with her cargo and crew.

  • Kol Hakavod, Shayetet 13! They just spared us many trips to the mamad( the safe room)

Hamas Commander Reportedly Urges Hezbollah to Join Forces Against Israel

JNS.org – Five months after Israeli forces tried to assassinate Hamas military commander Mohammed Deif in Gaza, Deif appears to have signed a letter that the terrorist group claims he wrote in hiding. The letter, addressed to Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, expressed Deif’s condolences for the death of Hezbollah terrorists during Sunday’s reported Israeli airstrike in Syria. Deif is said to have survived multiple assassination attempts, but he has not been seen in public for years. According to the Hezbollah-linked Al-Manar [...]

Shlomo Carlebach Musical Has the Soul to Heal Frayed Race Relations

JNS.org – The cracks that had been simply painted over for so long began to show in Ferguson, Mo., in November 2014, but in truth they had begun to open wide much earlier—on Saturday, July 13, 2013. That is when a jury in Sanford, Fla., acquitted George Zimmerman of culpability for the death of a 17-year-old black man, Trayvon Martin. The cracks receded from view over time, as other news obscured them. Then came the evening of Aug. 9, 2014, [...]

‘Homeland’ Season Finale Stirs Controversy After Comparing Menachem Begin to Taliban Leader

A controversial scene in the season finale of Homeland sparked outrage by comparing former Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin to a fictional Taliban leader, the UK’s Daily Mail reported. In the season 4 finale episode, which aired on Dec. 21, CIA black ops director Dar Adal, played by F. Murray Abraham, justifies a deal he made with a Taliban leader by referencing Begin. He makes the remarks in a conversation with former CIA director Saul Berenson, a Jewish character played by Mandy [...]

Placing Matisyahu Back Within a Life of Observance

Shining Light on Fiction During the North Korea-Sony saga, we learned two important lessons. The first is that there are two sides to this story, and neither of them are correct because ultimately we should have neither inappropriate movies nor dictators. The second is that we cannot remain entirely fixed on the religious world, but we also must see beyond the external, secular view of reality. It’s important to ground our Torah-based thoughts into real-life activism. To view our act [...]

Nine Decades of Moses at the Movies

JNS.org – Hollywood has had its share of big-budget biblical flops, but until now, the Exodus narrative has not been among them. Studios have brought Moses to the big screen sparingly, but in ways that defined the image and character of Moses for each generation of audiences. The first biblical epic In 1923, director Cecil B. DeMille left it to the American public to decide the subject of his next movie for Paramount. DeMille received a letter from a mechanic [...]

    Exodus on Screen (REVIEW)

JNS.org – The story of the Exodus from Egypt is a tale as old as time itself, to borrow a turn of phrase. It’s retold every Passover, both at the seder table and whenever “The Ten Commandments” is aired on television. But the latest adaptation—Ridley Scott’s epic film, “Exodus: Gods and Kings”—fails to meet expectations. Scott’s “Exodus” alters the source material to service the story and ground the tale, but the attempt to reinvent the biblical narrative becomes laughable. Moses [...]

JNS.org - In December 2007, leaders of the Hazon nonprofit drafted seven-year goals for what they coined as the “Jewish Food Movement,” which has since been characterized by the increased prioritization of healthy eating, sustainable agriculture, and food-related activism in the Jewish community. That’s exactly the kind of beyond-their-years access enjoyed by students at the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) industrial vocational high school run by Israel Sci-Tech Schools, the largest education network in the Jewish state.
