Israeli Naval commandos on Wednesday intercepted an Iranian ship in the Red Sea weighed down with missiles that was en route to the Gaza Strip, the IDF said in a statement.

The boat, named KLOSC, was stopped by the elite naval commando unit Shayetet 13 as it was heading to Sudan, 1,500 miles from Israel.

Once on board the KLOSC Israeli soldiers found cement bags, behind which were hidden dozens of M-302 missiles which, the IDF said, were loaded onto the boat in Iran. Had the boat reached the Port of Sudan, its next stop would have been the Gaza Strip.

The M-302 missile is made in Syria and is based on Iranian technology, Israel’s Walla reported. M-302 missiles have a range of up to 200 kilometers and were used during the Second Lebanon War in 2006 to bomb several Israeli cities, including Haifa.

IDF Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Benny Gantz, oversaw the operation and gave the order to Major General Ram Rothberg, head of the Israeli navy, to seize the KLOSC, the IDF said.

According to a senior Israeli military official, the commandos encountered no resistance from the crew of the KLOSC, Walla said.

The IDF said the success of the mission was “due to the combination of in-depth intelligence and enhanced operational capabilities.”

“This shipment, meant to reach the hands of terrorist organizations in Gaza that are waging an ongoing armed conflict against Israel. These terrorist organizations systematically use such weaponry against the Israeli civilian population,” the IDF added.

“Iran was behind the shipment,” said Brigadier General Moti Almoz, spokesman for the Israeli Navy, at a special press conference that was held on Wednesday, Ma’ariv reported.

IDF Spokesman, Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, said, “The IDF will continue to operate against the Iranian attempts to arm regional terrorist organizations, who intend to continuously ignite our borders. We will continue to employ all the necessary means in order to prevent the armament of terrorist organizations and will combat the Iranian smuggling attempts that threaten the security and sovereignty of the State of Israel.”

The Navy is currently in the process of towing the KLOSC to Israel’s southern port in Eilat and it is estimated that the voyage to Israel will take several days, Walla said.

The KLOSC is the fourth ship destined for Gaza to be intercepted by Israeli forces in recent years.

Excellent job in preventing this ship full of potential carnage in reaching the foes of Israel.

  • No doubt there will soon be a UN resolution condemning Israel for interrupting the peaceful shipment of tractor parts to Gaza.

  • very well done YIsraeli navy ! Iran show’s it has no intention to stop attacking YIsrael !

  • Want to know something strange, and “funny”?

There are plenty of ISRAELI ARABS living, conducting busines, marrying and spending their lives as Arabs in the Jewish State, wondering why the hell their compatriots re so angry with the Jews?…since the Jews don’t bother them at all; they have voting rights, are members of the Knesset, some even marry Jews, so…what’s the problem???

    Somebody has it all wrong!!

    • I do agree with this writer to-day Israeli arabs have have integrated well into Israeli society young people in Israeli universities & in all aspects of Israeli society they have their own units in the israeli army please don’t forget the Druse who run the Israeli border police

  • and Obama just sits there, the first Black president of the USA. does nothing, says nothing. probably was asleep with orders “do not disurb” while the world boils over.

Obama, the president of the United states, maker of foreign policy.

Friend of the Jews throughout the world. – yeah, right.

Good work! No telling how many lives will be saved by the efforts of the IDF.

Of course, Iran will raise hell and try to bully Israel.

In the mean time the inept Obama Administration will continue to use their intellect instead of their muscles to continue their stumbling around Middle Eastern affairs. After all, Obama has already proven over and over that his “word” means nothing, so I wonder why they keep on talking. And yet, Obama wants to lecture Netanyahu on Palestinian policy!!!! Get real. The capture of these missles go to show how “peaceful” the intent of the Iranians and Palestinians is.

And Kerry is another intellectual babbling fool.
They still think they can snobbishly use their intellect to bully Iran into submission. Kerry just publicly chastised Putin for marching into the Ukraine for no apparent purpose other than to occupy their land! Seriously? You mean like the US did to Iraq?

The Iranians and the Palestinians are laughing at the Obama Administration and they are too inept to see it.

It’s no wonder American Jews are switching to the Republican Party. Today’s Democratic party is NOT our parents Democratic Party and they do not stand with Israel and the Jewish people—-they just “claim” to and give us more lip service. I don’t buy it any more.

  • What Obama forgets is that muslim;s betray each other after they get what they want, that encludes Obama after he;s out,The patsy isn;t worth anything,He;s a has been.

  • The KLOSC should then be re-outfitted, dismantled for parts or towed out to sea and sunk.

  • Makes me real proud. Good going boys.

  • Israel will be reviled for interfering with essential supplies to Gaza, the fact that there were rockets on board is irrelevant.

    • Mordecai Ben Natan

The whole world will be up in arms against Israel who they claim are pirstes to arrest a ship.
Watxch all the Jew hating Muslims and Christians condemn Israel again.
To them, Israel has no right to act as “pirats”.
this must really upset those haters that the rockets can not be used to murder hundreds of Israeli Jews.
WELL DONE IDF. G-D IS WITH YOU.

      • Damon Keeley

I read each comment and concluded with a hearty Amen until this stupid comment. No REAL Born Again Christian is a “Jew hater”. Could the author of this comment really be the “Jew hater” who is trying to stir up trouble for those who really support Israel’s right to exist and defend herself? I also believe that no REAL Born Again Christian would support Obama or any other person who hates Israel. I happen to be in Israel today, visiting with a group of 75 people who paid alot of money just to visit the Holy Land. I wish I could fight for Israel. These are 8.8 million normal people seeking to live a peaceful life in their own homeland. Before Ayatolahs start trying to destroy Israel, or any country for that matter, they should invest that effort in trying to fix the problems in their own homelands, like treating women like human beings. I need not say more. GREAT JOB IDF! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!

  • rachel robinson

obama is easily fooled. Ajmedinegad was a bully, easy to recognize and he used his speeches to declare the intentions of Iran. Rouhani is a different kind of leader. he speaks softly, it the exact opposite of Ahmedinegad so he makes people believe him, but he says in the nicest way what his intentions are and they are not less evil than his predecessor. Obama is a fool, is not sophisticated, or better yet evil, he supports Iran against Israel and that is why he does nothing to stop Iran. that is nothing short of sinister!!

  • And of course the United Nations does nothing

  • Charlotte Greenbarg

I wonder if our government will insist that Israel return the missiles and apologize or face sanctions. It would be right in line with the chaos that’s our foreign policy.

    • Mordecai Ben Natan

Sure. Obama will demand that Israel return the missiles to Iran, and then that Netanyahu must apologize to Iran for “piracy on the high seas”

  • vivienne ziner

Has anyone told Obama what his “friends” are up to?

Or do these kind of details just not count????

  • Bernard Ross

and the ludicrous barry obama asked Israel NOT to assassinate Iranian nuclear scientists.

  • Instead of just destroying the missiles, I think that the next time Hamas decides to inflict its brand of terror, that Israel should send the missiles to their intended destination. To paraphrase an Obama Associate, Why let a good opportunity go to waste!

Either that or send them Return Receipt Requested to the White House.

  • M.A. Kinamohn

Good work, keep up the vigilance.

  • Mr.Obama and Mr.Kerry, how can there be any talk of giving up land for peace when the enemies of Israel continue to perpetuate terror and destruction within The Land of Israel?

  • Alan Kennedy

Take as much footage as possible, put the crew in a locker, light a slow fuse and leave

    • Israelis are peaceful people they wouldn’t harm people aboard the ship but if it were Russians surely they’d just sink the ship with her cargo and crew.

  • Kol Hakavod, Shayetet 13! They just spared us many trips to the mamad( the safe room)

Graves of Jewish Pirates in Jamaica Give Caribbean Tourists Taste of Little-Known History

Tour operators are calling attention to Jamaica’s little-known Jewish heritage by arranging visits to historic Jewish sites on the Caribbean island, including a cemetery where Jewish pirates are buried. A report in Travel and Leisure magazine describes the Hunts Bay Cemetery in Kingston, where there are seven tombstones engraved with Hebrew benedictions and skull and crossbones insignia. According to the report, centuries ago, Jewish pirates sailed the waters of Jamaica and settled in Port Royal. The town, once known as “the wickedest city in the […]

Filmmaker Eyal Resh Embraces the Challenge of Telling Israel’s Story (VIDEO)

JNS.org – Telling Israel’s story. It’s the specific title of a short film that Eyal Resh created last year. It’s also the theme behind the 27-year-old Israeli filmmaker’s broader body of work. The widely viewed “Telling Israel’s Story” film—directed by Resh for a gala event hosted by the Times of Israel online news outlet—seemingly begins as a promotional tourism video, but quickly evolves to offer a multilayered perspective. “I want to tell you a story about a special place for me,” a young woman whispers […]

Israel Geeks Out: Science, Art and Tech Event Embodies Jewish State’s ‘DNA’

JNS.org – The entrance to Jerusalem’s Sacher Park was transformed from April 25-27 by a fire-breathing robotic dragon, which flailed its arms and attempted to take flight. The robot, a signature feature at Jerusalem’s first-ever “Geek Picnic,” was one of more than 150 scientific amusements available for the public to experience. This particular dragon was designed by students from Moscow’s Art Industrial Institute in conjunction with the Flacon design factory, said Anatasia Shaminer, a student who helped facilitate the display. The Syrian Virgin (REVIEW)

The Syrian Virgin, by Zack Love. CreateSpace, 2015. The Syrian Virgin, by Zack Love, is a very interesting novel. Equally a political and romantic thriller, at times a real page-turner, it gets you intimately involved in the dire situation in today’s Syria, as well as in the romantic entanglements of its mostly New York-based characters — whose entanglements just might determine the fate of that dire situation in Syria. Along the way it introduces a really important idea that somehow […]

Unpacking the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict and Its Ripple Effect on Israel’s Region

JNS.org – Aside from Israel itself, those with a vested interest in the Jewish state are accustomed to tracking developments related to Middle East players such as Iran, Syria, Jordan and Egypt. But much global attention has recently focused on the Caucasus region at the Europe-Asia border, specifically on the suddenly intensified violence between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the mountainous Nagorno-Karabakh area of western Azerbaijan. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, while not taking place in Israel’s immediate neighborhood, does have what one scholar called […]

Not to be forgotten on this day is Israel, which is known as the “start-up nation” for its disproportionate amount of technological innovation, including in the area of protecting the environment. New Documentary Explores Holocaust Humor, Role That Laughter Played in Death Camps

Holocaust humor and the role that laughter played in the lives of Jews during World War II are the focus of a documentary that made its world premiere on Monday at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. In The Last Laugh, first- and second-generation survivors, as well as famous Jewish and non-Jewish comedians, discuss their thoughts on when joking about the death camps is appropriate or taboo. “Nazi humor, that’s OK. Holocaust humor, no,” Jewish comedic giant, actor and filmmaker Mel Brooks says in the film. “Anything I […]

Tragedy Culminates in ‘Celebration,’ Says Israeli Author Who Lost Son to Terror

JNS.org – Sherri Mandell’s life was devastated on May 8, 2001, when her 13-year-old son Koby was murdered by terrorists on the outskirts of the Israeli Jewish community of Tekoa. Yet Mandell not only shares the story of her loss, but also celebrates the lessons she has learned from tragedy. Indeed, “celebrate” is this Israeli-American author’s word choice. Her second book, The Road to Resilience: From Chaos to Celebration (Toby Press), came out earlier this year. The lesson: in every celebration, there is […]
