JNS.org – A Democratic National Committee (DNC) staff member questioned whether Holocaust Remembrance Day was worth publishing a statement to honor the day, the Daily Caller discovered in recent emails from the DNC staff leaked by WikiLeaks.

Outgoing DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fl.) sent an email titled “Yom Hashoah statement” to DNC’s director of Jewish engagement, Aaron Weinberg and senior communications director, Ryan Banfill, requesting a statement to honor Holocaust Remembrance Day or Yom Hashoah.

“We need to do a statement from the DNC. Is there a reason we haven’t?” Schultz, who is Jewish, asked Banfill, who forwarded the email to another staff member, Kate Houghton.

“We aren’t going to do statements for every Jewish holiday unless she wants to do them for every religious holiday and trust me, this Catholic can give you a list of them,” wrote staffer Houghton. “Also when she does an official statement it makes very little sense to have two statements out there in her voice.”

Banfill responded: “This is about remembering the Holocaust. Never forget.”
Houghton seemed irritated at the request to have a statement specifically for the Jewish memorial day.

“Yup… or Darfur or Armenia or Rwanda or Bosnia (which PS is where my husband served),” Houghton replied. “Does she want us to do one for each other those remembrance days as well?”
