Hit Israeli Series ‘Beauty Queen of Jerusalem’ Coming Back to Netflix in July

The Israeli award-winning historical drama The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem is returning to Netflix next month for a second season, the show’s Tel Aviv-based producer and distributor Yes Studios announced Monday.
All 16 episodes of the new season will be available for streaming on Netflix in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, and other markets on July 14. The hit show will continue to focus on the multi-generational story of the Ermosa family living in Jerusalem during the 1940s.
“Newlyweds Luna (Swell Ariel Or) and David (Israel Ogalbo) experience a growing strain on their relationship once they enter a bohemian British circle, Gabriel (Michael Aloni) will search for the son he never knew he had from his affair with Rochel (Yuval Scharf) and the family shop will hit hard times, forcing Rosa (Hila Saada) and the women of the family to take matters into their own hands,” reads a synopsis of season two provided by Yes Studios. The synopsis also notes, “Ephraim (Tom Hagi) will become even more radical in his actions putting the whole family in danger, all while the threat of World War II will become critical.”
The multi-language series is adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Sarit Yishai-Levi. The show was created by Shlomo Mashiach, Ester Namdar Tamam, and Oded Davidoff and won four awards at the Israeli TV Academy Awards last year, including best daily drama. Season two premiered earlier this year on Yes TV.
The show’s first season began airing on Netflix in May 2022. It was the most expensive investment for Yes TV and one of Israel’s priciest productions.
“Acclaimed for its lavish design, period reconstruction and masterful storytelling, The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem is one of Israel’s most addictive and ambitious series to date and season one proved a big hit with viewers all over the world,” said Sharon Levi, managing director of Yes Studios. “The same characters return in season two, with the backdrop moving more from the dying days of the Ottoman Empire to The British Mandate and World War II — providing a fascinating history of a fledgling country as well as the passionate and heart-breaking story of the Ermosa family. We are thrilled to now share this second season with Netflix viewers around the world.”
