NBA superstar Lebron James has sent out invites for his wedding, reports TMZ, but the date may prove problematic for his Jewish guests. James asked guests to set aside Friday Sept. 13 through Sunday Sept. 15 for his wedding to fiancee Savannah Brinson. However, the Jewish high holiday of Yom Kippur begins at sundown on September 13th, and it is customary for Jews to fast and pray during that time.
James has maintained unexpected relationships with members of the Jewish community. In 2010, he paid Rabbi Yishayahu Yosef Pinto, an Israeli rabbi and kabbalist who does not speak English, a six figure sum to provide guidance at a merchandising meeting on an offshore yacht (pictured). In 2009, James nominated Jay Schottenstein, an Ohio businessman and philanthropist who funded ArtScroll’s Talmud translation, for TIME Magazine’s TIME 100 list of most influential people.
