Following a press conference at the White House yesterday where Jay Carney – the president’s press secretary – would not affirm whether the Obama administration views Jerusalem or Tel Aviv as Israel’s capital, the Republican affiliated Emergency Committee for Israel has released a new advertisement which criticizes the President for his lack of clarity on the issue of the capital of Israel.
The video advertisement begins with an Obama speech at the 2008 America Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference, where he states that “Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel and it must remain undivided.”
The video then flashes to remarks by Victoria Nuland of the State Department, where she dodges the question of whether or not the United States considers Jerusalem to be Israel’s capital city.
